Renew Your Mind: Transforming Habits for Spiritual Growth

Hello again internet blog. Long time, no see! Some authors, and writers in general would call it a writer’s block. Average people would call it a “break to find inspiration.” Then for those like me, in the recent years, some just need to re-write the chapter they are in, before publishing it for the world to see.

As human’s we are naturally prone to forming habits and ways of life that determine who we are as a whole. Often times with little realization of what each habit contributes to our overall character. From the brand’s we habitually buy from, to the order in which we start each day, and how we brush our teeth. Do you wake up and make your bed? If so, why? These little habits that form routines throughout our lives, completely make us who we are. It starts with truly realizing what control you have over your own life, mind, and body. My great grandmother always reminded my brother and I that it was up to no one but us, to be happy. What does this mean as a follower of Christ?

HABITS. Throughout all of these little routines, we are responsible for renewing our bodies and our spiritual health. When neglected, those habits become all that’s left to identify who we are. If we do not take time to rest, we will feel the strain on our bodies, so we become negative and irritable. This strain and irritation will show when we try to navigate our responsibilities. Then our responses, and the light we put out for other’s, becomes too dark to shine. If we do not do our dishes, I think we all know the yucky consequences to follow. So why not prioritize the habits that determine how much we look like Christ? Why not continuously renew the DRIVING factor that determines who we are and what we do?

Taking the time to spend in prayer, is a huge step. One on one communication with Christ is key to any spiritual relationship, and learning how to truly trust that God is the author of our lives.

Romans 12:2 says “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The ONE good thing about Jesus dying on the cross for us, was that we then access Christ directly. He died for us, to live again in us. That being said, we can go to Him directly through the word of God, worship. prayer, and the list goes on. It is THAT easy. I have seen close friends who were former atheists reach out to Christ in prayer. They have been drawn to Christ through that simple act of faith.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
